Testing mics

September 14, 2020

1 and 2 are a lapel mic (Sony, omnidirectional). Seems pretty good but I can’t use it with the air conditioning on and it’s a bit tricky to get the right level of gain.

3 through 7 are a desktop mic (Blue Yeti).

8 is obviously a boom mic (Shure, dynamic, behind the neck).

Obviously, even if 8 sounds best (which I think it may), it’s not as visually ideal. It eliminates background noise like the air conditioner well, but seems to easily create “puff/pop” breathe noises. The mic is actually too far from my mouth; moving it closer will increase volume but probably also the puff/pop breathe noises.
